Mechanical Ventilation
We test bath fans and whole house ventilation fans to verify they meet the required airflow per 2021 IECC code and building department requirements.
What Is Mechanical Ventilation Testing?
The 2021 IECC requires that bath fans and whole house ventilation fans deliver a minimum airflow to maintain healthy indoor air quality. We measure the actual airflow output of each fan and verify it meets the code-required CFMs per building department requirements. If a fan falls short, the contractor is notified so corrections can be made before the certificate of occupancy is issued.
Why It Matters
2021 IECC Code Requirement
The building department requires ventilation fans to meet minimum airflow standards under the 2021 IECC before a certificate of occupancy can be issued.
Bath Fan Performance
Bath fans that don't move enough air allow moisture to accumulate, leading to mold, mildew, and structural damage over time.
Whole House Ventilation
Whole house fans must deliver the required fresh air exchange rate to maintain healthy indoor air quality in today's tightly built homes.
Contractor Correction
If any fan fails to meet the required CFMs, we document the deficiency so the contractor knows exactly what needs to be corrected.
How It Works
Code Requirement Review
We determine the minimum required CFM for each bath fan and the whole house ventilation fan based on 2021 IECC standards and the building permit.
Fan Airflow Measurement
Using a calibrated flow hood or anemometer, we measure the actual airflow output of each bath fan and the whole house ventilation fan.
Compare to Code
Measured CFMs are compared against the 2021 IECC minimums. Any fan that falls short is flagged for the contractor to address.
Compliance Report
A signed compliance report is issued confirming each fan meets code requirements, suitable for submission to the building department.
