Home Performance Test
Required when a home is installed using performance plans permitted through the building department — we verify every register is delivering the airflow the load calculations demand.
What Is a Home Performance Test?
When a home is installed using only performance plans permitted through the building department, the building department requires a duct HVAC performance test to ensure all registers are emitting airflow efficiently. We use a flow hood to capture each register and measure the CFMs from that area, then compare those readings to the load calculations provided with the permit.
Why It Matters
Required for Performance Plans
Homes permitted through the building department using performance plans are required to pass this test before receiving a certificate of occupancy.
Verified Airflow Efficiency
Confirms every register is delivering the CFMs the load calculations specify — no guesswork.
Contractor Accountability
Identifies exactly which areas the heating contractor needs to correct, with measured data to back it up.
Proper System Installation
Gives the building department and homeowner confidence that the HVAC system was installed as designed.
How It Works
Permit & Load Calc Review
We review the performance plans and load calculations submitted to the building department so we know the required CFM for every register in the home.
Flow Hood Measurement
A calibrated flow hood is placed over each supply and return register to capture the actual airflow in CFMs being delivered to that area.
Compare to Design
Measured CFMs are compared against the load calculation targets. Any register that falls outside the acceptable range is flagged for the heating contractor.
Compliance Report
A signed report is issued identifying which areas (if any) the heating contractor needs to correct and confirming the system was installed properly.
